Peripheral neuropathy is a debilitating progressive disease that affects the nerves in the peripheral nervous system. These are the nerves that are outside of the brain and spinal cord. Most often, peripheral neuropathy starts in the hands and feet and can progress into the arms and legs. When dealing with peripheral neuropathy, it is common for people to experience numbness and tingling, sensations of pins and needles, and an inability to feel their hands and feet. Increased feelings of cold and heat are also often experienced as well as increased sensations of pain in the hands and feet.
